  • What should be our instance in these times?

Assalamu Alaikum Brothers & Sisters,

Today, we are living in such a world where it feels like Qiyamah is not far away. The prophecies of our Prophet Muhammad PBUH about Qiyamah are being fulfilled.

Some Muslims don't like to discuss this topic. However, it should be discussed regularly since holding on to faith has become so difficult as Prophet Muhammad PBUH described it.

"‏ يَأْتِي عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ الصَّابِرُ فِيهِمْ عَلَى دِينِهِ كَالْقَابِضِ عَلَى الْجَمْرِ ‏"

"There shall come upon the people a time in which the one who is patient upon his religion will be like the one holding onto a burning ember."

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2260)

Two significant benefits from discussing the Qiyamah Signs:

  1. It makes our belief stronger.

  2. It serves as a reminder that one day, we all will face Allah SWT

The 5 Signs of the Hour

1. Women will be clothed but naked

“Two are the types of the denizens of Hell whom I did not see: people having flogs like the tails of the ox with them and they would be beating people, and the women who would be dressed but appear to be naked…”

Sahih Muslim 2128

One thing we should keep in mind is that here, Prophet Muhammad PBUH is not talking about non-Muslims. Today, we see so many Muslim women wearing bright-colored, tight hijabs, and even though they have covered their hair, it doesn’t hide their beauty.

2. Nations summoning one another to attack Muslims

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish… and Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and last enervation (wahn) into your hearts. Someone asked: What is wahn (enervation). Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): He replied: Love of the world and dislike of death.

Sunan Abi Dawud 4297

Over the past few decades, Non-Muslims have attacked Muslim countries. Nowadays, Muslims idealize the west and love this worldly life… that’s why Allah SWT took out the fear of Muslims from their enemy.

3. Time will pass rapidly

"Time will pass rapidly, good deeds will decrease, miserliness will be thrown (in the hearts of the people)…

Sahih al-Bukhari 6037

Scholars have given several interpretations for this Hadith. However, if we take these words in their literal meaning, it always feels like time is passing rapidly.

Whenever we reach the weekend, there is a moment of realization when looking back, it feels like the week has passed by too quickly.

4. Man will be close to his friend and far from his father

Today, we see this all the time: someone makes a good friend and considers him his everything, shares his secrets with him, and hangs out with him, even though his friend may only use him for worldly benefits.

His attitude toward his father is quite the opposite. He thinks of his father as an old man who knows nothing about the world. He forgets most (if not all) the sacrifices that his father made for him. When his father gets older, he treats him like a burden.

Sadly, even now in Muslim countries, there are old age homes where people leave their parents alone, and hardly visit them…

5. Sudden death will become prevalent:

[A sign of the approach of Qiyamah is that] Sudden death will become apparent.”

(Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 9372)

These days, we hear about young people having heart attacks, strokes, or accidents. In the past, people usually got older before getting sick. They would feel a disease coming and then realize their time was near.

But now, young folks face sudden events that don't give them a chance to think about life and turn to Allah SWT.

What should we do in this scenario?

In response to these signs, we should do the following things

  1. Gratitude: Acknowledge the blessings of Islam and the awareness of these signs.

  2. Dua: Seek refuge from societal evils and impending fitnah.

  3. Strengthen Iman: Enhance faith through Salah, Quran recitation, and abundant good deeds. Since Prophet Muhammad PBUH said:

Be prompt in doing good deeds (before you are overtaken) by turbulence which would be like a part of the dark night. A man would be a believer in the morning and turn to disbelief in the evening, or he would be a believer in the evening and turn disbeliever in the morning and would sell his Faith for worldly goods."

May Allah protect us all from those times.
